Skopje, 11 December 2025 (MIA) — The 14th of 15 planned railway tunnels on the Beljakovce to Kriva Palanka railroad under construction was excavated Thursday morning, Macedonian Railways Infrastructure director Sinisha Ivanovski said on social media.

"It is nice when there is light at the end of the tunnel," Ivanovski wrote, sharing a video on Facebook. 

"Early this morning we excavated the next-to-last of the 15 tunnels on the Beljakovce to Kriva Palanka railway section," he wrote, adding that this was the second section of the railway to Bulgaria that construction was underway on. 

He also said the rail construction project was facing many challenges, one of which was building tunnels.

"The overall progress of the construction project is not at the desired level, but I would like to praise the contractor for their success in building tunnels," Ivanovski said. 

"I believe they will start making progress in other aspects of the construction, too, very soon," he said. mr/
