New York, 3 September 2022 (dpa/MIA) - NASA says Saturday is the next possible launch date for its unmanned Artemis moon mission test flight after a failed attempt earlier this week. The team decided to change the fuel loading process after encountering problems in their preparations for the Monday attempt, Artemis mission manager Mike Sarafin said on Tuesday. The launch was called off due to issues including a fuel leak, temperatures being too high in one of the four engines and poor weather conditions. From now on, the engines will be cooled down earlier in the launch process, NASA said. A two-hour window starting on Saturday afternoon at 2:17 pm (1817 GMT) has been set for the launch from the Kennedy Space Centre in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Weather conditions could yet cause a fresh cancellation on Saturday however, NASA noted. The unmanned Artemis I test flight is due to last around 40 days. The Artemis mission aims to return US astronauts to the moon, though due to problems identified during earlier tests, the mission's original timeline has been delayed, and NASA does not expect to do so until 2025 at the earliest. In the long term, the Artemis flights are intended to pave the way for NASA to send manned missions to Mars.
