New Skopje Mayor expects City Council to produce ideas, visions and solutions, not divisions

New Skopje Mayor expects City Council to produce ideas, visions and solutions, not divisions

Skopje, 7 November 2025 (MIA) - Today, we are beginning a new, beautiful chapter of our capital. This inaugural session of the Skopje City Council sends a strong message that democracy lives through responsibility, cooperation and vision for a better Skopje. This Council has a historic task of leading Skopje into stable, functional and sustainable development, to demonstrate that results are visible when politics puts citizens first. We have no time for experiments, it's time to get to work, said Skopje Mayor Orce Gjorgjievski on Friday.

Mayor Gjorgjievski referred to his priorities and told council members their role is crucial in the process.

"I believe that together, through vision, effort and responsibility, we will build a modern, clean and decent city, one that we all deserve. Regardless of political affiliation, we all here have the same goal - to make Skopje a better place to live in. I expect this Council to produce ideas, visions and solutions, not divisions. We must show that we can cooperate when it comes to the interests of citizens, whom we owe honesty, commitment and concrete results. It is our duty to bring back the trust in institutions and show that local authorities can be the model of professionalism, integrity and efficiency," said Gjorgjievski.

The Mayor said his objective is to make Skopje a model of cleanliness, order, transparency and urban development, a city where citizens will feel safe, proud and equal.

"Skopje is the heart of Macedonia, it is a city full of history, tradition, culture and youth. Our mission is to enhance this and turn Skopje into a city where young people will stay, families will flourish, whereas all citizens will have a decent life. In the coming period, we will focus on several key priorities - efficient and modern public transport through investments in new buses, improvement of the traffic infrastructure and security on our streets, clean air, more green areas, and waste solutions - which are the foundations of a healthy city. Skopje must become a leader in environmental policies. I will not allow for chaos in urban planning. We will promote a balance between development and protection of public areas," noted Gjorgjievski.

He also said support would be provided for youth projects, innovations, cultural initiatives and sport, while adding that transparency would be one of the administration's priorities.

"As of yesterday, Skopje is an open city for all, and citizens should know where budget funds are spent. We will provide access to all information, open data and accountable administration," underlined Gjorgjievski.
