National Post employees stage protest, to strike in June: union leader

Skopje, 22 May 2024 (MIA) - Staff at the Post of North Macedonia are staging a protest Wednesday in revolt and concern over the future of the company and their jobs, the post’s union leader Boro Veligdenov said.

“We don’t know when we will get paid due to the lack of finances, the managerial team can’t answer this question either, because they’re allegedly expecting some inflow. The Macedonian post has been brought to the brink of destruction, its existence is into question, and we are requesting an urgent meeting with the new government so that we solve the issues. What we’ve been asking for years is to immediately launch new reforms and overall reorganization. The procedure for the systemization of new jobs is the basis and foundation for further stabilization and functioning of the company. The government should engage over the interest of Macedonian post, because 2000 workers will be left on the street, and we will be the sole example in the world with a non-functioning national post,” Veligdenov said.

Veligdenov also demanded an end to partisan staffing which, he said, “has destroyed Macedonian post” and said its workers would strike in June.

“As we said last month, we will strike because we’ve reached the bottom and have nothing to lose as employees. In accordance with the legislation, the strike will begin after June 7, and we will persist until the end, we will fight for the survival of Macedonian post,” said union leader Veligdenov.
