National Opera and Ballet to perform contemporary 'Cinderella'

Skopje, 27 September 2024 (MIA) — The National Opera and Ballet will perform Sergei Prokofiev's ballet "Cinderella, Op. 87" choreographed by Serbian coreographer Aleksandar Ilic on Friday evening.

According to Ilic, this version of "Cinderella" is much more contemporary.

"We have set our 'Cinderella' in a completely different era – in the 1970s, at the time when 'Grease' and John Travolta in his best-known role were at the height of popularity," the choreographer is quoted as saying in the NOB press release.

Performers include Natasha Trendafilova Gicev, Hristina Nakjevska, Igor Velanoski, Sasha Evtimova, Angela Bogatinova, Andrew Cook, Christian Yangos, Dragan Kochoski, Gala Kochevska, and other National Opera and Ballet dancers.

The costumes were designed by Katerina Radosevic Galic from Croatia. The stage designer is Filip Korunovski, the sound designer Georg Drausnik from Croatia, the light designer is Milcho Aleksandrov, and the assistant choreographers are Sasha Evtimova and Mojca Majcen from Slovenia.

Sergei Prokofiev (1891–1953) was a 20th-century Russian and Soviet composer who wrote many symphonies, concerti, film music, operas, and ballet scores. Charles Perrault's "Cinderella" tale inspired Prokofiev's ballet score, which is one of his best-known works. It was composed between 1940 and 1944. mr/
