National Bank strengthens capacities for detecting counterfeit money

Skopje, 16 January 2024 (MIA) — Experts on detecting counterfeit money have recently trained over 200 employees of commercial banks and financial institutions, the National Bank said in a press release.
According to the release, training cash handlers to quickly detect suspicious banknotes was aimed at their prompt removal from circulation and delivery to the central bank.
National Bank experts regularly run mandatory training courses on domestic and foreign currency security features for staff in financial institutions, banks and cash centers.
At the recommendation of the EU Twinning project “Strengthening the capacities of the system for fight against counterfeiting of EUR” in North Macedonia, the training has now been expanded to include representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Customs Administration, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Financial Police Office.
The central bank also performs expert analysis and provides support in dealing with counterfeit money in cooperation with international institutions. the release adds. mr/
