Nakje Georgiev, Antoaneta Dimovska elected new members of Judicial Council

Skopje, 14 July 2023 (MIA) - The election commission has not received any objections to the voting and results during Thursday's election of new members to the Judicial Council. The commission announced the final results, according to which Nakje Georgiev, a Supreme Court judge, and Antoaneta Dimovska, a Skopje-based Civil Court judge, are the new members of the Judicial Council.

 

They will complete the 15-member Judicial Council after the resignations of Supreme Court judge Mirjana Radevska-Stefkova and Appellate Court judge Zoran Gerasimovski.

 

President of the election commission, Shubi Yakupi, announced the final results at a press-conference on Friday.

 

Nakje Georgiev, who was the only candidate from the ranks of the supreme judges, received six votes from the general list of candidates of the Supreme Court of North Macedonia. Thirteen out of sixteen registered voters cast their votes, seven ballots were invalid, and three unused.

 

Antoaneta Dimovska, a Skopje-based Civil Court judge, was elected from the list of the Skopje appellate area and the administrative courts. She received 110 votes, while her opponent Kavadarci-based Court judge, Lazar Nanev, received 49 votes. 185 out of 220 registered voters voted for the candidates from this list, 26 ballots were invalid, and 35 unused.

 

 

The commission awarded certificates to the new members and wished them success in their work as new members of the Judicial Council.

 

The voting lasted from 8am until 3pm, and 236 judges, 16 Supreme Court judges, 220 judges from the Skopje appellate area - the Basic Civil Court and the Basic Criminal Court in Skopje, Basic Criminal Court in Veles, Kavadarci, Negotino, Gevgjelija, Kumanovo, Kriva Palanka and Kratovo, as well as the judges from the Administrative and High Administrative Court, had the right to vote.

 

The election commission monitored the election process in all 13 polling stations for the two lists of candidates, regarding which voter turnout was 84 percent.

 

Candidates and committees were legally allowed to appeal on two grounds - for the actual course of voting and objections to the election results. ssh/nn/
