N. Macedonia committed to Europeanizing its society, say Zaev and Schweng
Skopje, 1 October 2021 (MIA) – Prime Minister Zoran Zaev met Friday with Christa Schweng, the President of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), who is in Skopje for the two-day Western Balkans Civil Society Forum, the government said Friday. During the meeting, Schweng reaffirmed the commitment to accelerating the EU enlargement process of the Western Balkan countries, which will be included in the declaration of the Civil Society Forum. The example of North Macedonia, she said, is inspiring due to the rising commitment the country has been manifesting to Europeanize its society, especially in terms of dialogue with social partners and the civil society. Welcoming the organization of the forum, held ahead of the EU-Western Balkans Summit in October in Slovenia, PM Zaev underlined the importance of the central topic of the forum: “Strengthening the accession process – Credible perspective of the EU for the Western Balkans.” At the meeting with EU Ambassador David Geer in attendance, Zaev said he expected the recommendations from the forum of Western Balkans civil organizations to be part of the new impetus for support of enlargement, much needed to make necessary steps to unblock the EU enlargement. The PM also stressed that social partners and civil organizations play key and essential part in policy creation, especially in implementing the green agenda in line with EU directives, said the press release.
