Museum of Contemporary Art project to receive grant from Headley SEE Cultural Heritage Fund

Skopje, 10 July 2024 (MIA) – “MoCA-Skopje Masterpieces 4 All” is the only Macedonian project out of 46 submitted projects selected in the first call for grants from the Headley SEE Cultural Heritage Fund for 2024 through the Balkan Museum Network (BMN), said the Museum of Contemporary Art – Skopje.
“The members of the evaluation commission concluded that the Museum of Contemporary Art – Skopje is one of the leading museums in the country, which is why it is of crucial importance for the museum to kick off transformation introducing better accessibility and inclusion,” said the press release.

Curator Bojana Janeva is the project manager, who has said that the Museum of Contemporary Art – Skopje through the project will get an accessibility study from top experts in the fields from the country and the region, a training for its staff on how to communicate with various vulnerable groups and the creation of replicas of works for people with impaired vision.

“Museum in a Suitcase” with tactile replicas of works of art from the museum’s collection will be made available for people having difficulties to come to the museum in Skopje.

According to the press release, the Museum of Contemporary Art last year launched monthly “Tours of Inclusion” in cooperation with civil organizations representing people with disabilities. “The feedback has helped us identify key points on how to improve the work of the Museum of Contemporary Art, which was the initial motive for us to develop the project ‘MoCA-Skopje Masterpieces 4 All’,” said Janeva.

Other project selected as part of the call include Ambelli – “Project Beezantium”, Karoussos Archives – “The Spyronians Podcast Show”, SKVER – “Window to the Past: Industrial Heritage of Zaječar”, and Association Kulturnova – “Fostering Museum Engagement with Young Adults”.
