Murtezani: No snap election, Bekim Sali will be new First Deputy PM

Murtezani: No snap election, Bekim Sali will be new First Deputy PM

Skopje, 6 October 2025 (MIA) - There will be no snap election next year because there is no need for it, Minister of European Affairs and Worth It coalition's Alternativa party vice president Orhan Murtezani said in an interview with 360 Degrees on MRT 1 broadcast late Monday evening.

Asked whether VMRO-DPMNE could be put under pressure to call a snap election if DUI won the upcoming local elections, Murtezani said the ruling majority with 76 MPs was stable.

He recalled that after the parliamentary elections DUI had claimed that VMRO-DPMNE and Worth It were unlikely to form a government together.

"We formed a government," Murtezani said.

"Then they said, 'There is no chance they'll last even a hundred days.' A hundred days passed," he said, adding that while DUI was "talking big," the ruling coalition would "continue to win and rule."

He also said a snap election was unnecessary as it would slow down projects the government had started.

"We don't see any need for it," he said, "because in 2026 we expect the first results of all these measures the government has been preparing and taking for months."

Regarding announcements of a potential government reshuffle by the end of the year, Murtezani said it could happen if government ministers running in the mayoral races were elected mayors.

"Some ministers will be replaced because they will become mayors," he said. "In this case, we will need a new environment minister and a new minister of demography, labor and youth."

First Deputy Prime Minister Izet Mexhiti is the current environment minister and Fatmir Limani is the minister of demography, labor and youth. Mexhiti is running for Chair mayor. Limani is running for Kichevo mayor.

"What we know for sure right now is that the First Deputy Prime Minister will be our MP Bekim Sali," Murtezani said, referring to the former minister of health who is tipped to take over the role of First Deputy PM from Mexhiti.

Regarding the election campaign, Murtezani said the Worth it coalition was talking about projects, financing and budgets, while DUI was stirring up the passions of the Albanians, wanting to cover up the party's incompetence and corruption.

"For DUI, seeing that Ali Ahmeti did not manage to build a sewage system for his village in 22 years, it is very difficult to convince citizens that after 22 years in power, you will now build a sewage system, a water supply network, schools," Murtezani said. mr/
