Mucunski on Greenfield FDI Performance Index ranking: Proving we are a small country that can achieve big results

Skopje, 15 August 2025 (MIA) - According to the latest report by the Financial Times, our country ranks among the first in Europe and sixth in the world in terms of the volume of greenfield investments relative to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). We are proving that we are a small country capable of achieving great results, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Timcho Mucunski at a press conference Friday.

This index, Mucunski said, doesn’t reward size, but effort and trust, stressing that this is no coincidence, since the Government is sending a message that the country is a reliable and dignified partner, building predictability, and a credible NATO member that is also connecting to the European corridors.

“It shows that we are attracting more new capital than would be expected from our economy, that the results achieved in foreign investments are above our category. This is a message to the investors and the citizens, it is worth investing, building and staying here,” Mucunski said.

Mucunski pointed to energy projects and new investments realized in the Technological Industrial Development Zones over the past year as an example of this dynamic.

“It is a clear signal that the energy transition and industrial growth are being realized, and are not just a plan or slogans,” Mucunski said.

“The citizens don’t expect applause for this data,” Mucunski stressed, “but an honest country with clear rules, better paid jobs and lower costs, fast digital services, and continued improvement”.

“That is why we are now moving at an even greater pace. Simplifying procedures, shortening deadlines and connecting domestic companies with foreign investors. We are investing in youth skills and most importantly, we are creating a system in which no one is above the law, since trust is the strongest currency for growth,” Mucunski said.

The head of the TIDZ Directorate, Goce Dimoski, said the ranking represents a recognition of the country’s strategy, approach and policies in attracting foreign investments.

“From the very beginning of this Government’s term, we set a clear goal aimed at delivering results with long-term positive impact on the economy. As key priorities we focused on economic growth, the creation of new jobs and attracting new investments that bring high added value to the Macedonian economy. After just one year of dedicated hard work, we are witnessing that Macedonia is ranked sixth in the world and is a leader in the Adria region, serving as an example of a Western Balkan country that exceeds its potential when it comes to attracting foreign investments,” Dimoski stressed.
