MP: Alternativa to decide whether to endorse budget adoption and snap elections or majority boost

MP: Alternativa to decide whether to endorse budget adoption and snap elections or majority boost
Skopje, 12 November 2021 (MIA) – Starting today, there are two major challenges ahead – the first challenge is all political stakeholders to sit down and adopt next year’s budget unanimously before snap elections are organized and the second one is to boost the majority, Alternativa MP Skeder Rexhepi said Friday. Alternativa’s party bodies, he stated, will decide in the coming days which of the two options is more important for the country and the citizens, placing them above the party’s interests. According to him, Alternativa is highly aware of the coming political challenges. “I don’t know what happened yesterday, the government should have been toppled. It might be democratically unexpected, but nevertheless, the country started off this day in a severe political crisis as we are slowly facing two major challenges,” Rexhepi said adding his party will make decisions primarily in the interest of the state. Before Alternativa makes any decision, the MP stressed, the party will take into consideration many factors, most notably the international factors even though there are internal factors that need to be coordinated. The opposition, Rexhepi said, should in a way help the budget to be adopted with consensus, which could pave the way for snap elections. Asked about the whereabouts of Besa MP Kastriot Rexhepi, who was a no-show at yesterday’s no confidence vote against the government in Parliament, Rexhepi said he didn’t know insisting that someone must be held accountable for his disappearance. “Someone must be held accountable for the way democracy in Macedonia was presented yesterday. Either him or the government,” he told reporters. Earlier, the Interior Ministry in a statement said that Besa MP Kastriot Rexhepi reported to a police station and stated that he was never missing but voluntarily and free of pressure went to a friend’s house with his family, in order to protect himself from publicity related to the Parliament session.
