Morgan Sanson brace helps Nice inflict PSG's first league defeat

London, 26 April 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Paris St Germain lost their unbeaten Ligue 1 record as Nice won 3-1 at the Parc des Princes.

The French champions' first league defeat since Toulouse beat them in the French capital last May came just four days before the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Arsenal.

Morgan Sanson scored either side of Fabian Ruiz's first-half equalizer and Youssouf Ndayishimiye headed home 20 minutes from time to lift Nice into fourth – a single point behind second-placed Marseille.

With closing games against Reims, Rennes and Brest – three sides with nothing but pride to play for – Nice will be hopeful they can qualify for next season's Champions League.

Luis Enrique's PSG had won 24 and drawn six of their 30 league games before kick-off and still had reaching 90 points in their sights by winning their four remaining games.

PSG pinned Nice into their own half for most of the opening quarter without little end product.

Marcin Bulka made saves to deny Ousmane Dembele and Ruiz, but the Nice goalkeeper was not overly stretched until the 25th minute.

Dembele sped away from Ndayishimiye and his effort seemed destined for the bottom corner of the net until Bulka thrust out a strong hand.

Bulka also saved from Joao Neves and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as PSG pressure grew before Nice, who had only briefly threatened through Ali Abdi, took a shock lead after 34 minutes.

Badredine Bouanani delivered a through-ball for Sanson to place a shot under Gianluigi Donnarumma and claim his first goal for 12 months.

PSG were shaken but levelled within seven minutes as Dembele cut in from the right and chipped towards the six-yard box for Ruiz to slip the ball through Bulka's legs.

However, Nice were almost back in front moments later as Abdi burst on to Marquinhos' under-hit back pass, but could not beat the sizeable frame of Donnarumma.

The second half started in sensational fashion as Sanson slipped between Marquinhos and Achraf Hakimi to volley home Jonathan Clauss' cross from close range.

PSG responded with a string of chances for Dembele, Hakimi and Desire Doue as Bulka stood firm again to push over Vitinha's free-kick and Nice would silence the home crowd again.

Hicham Boudaoui swung over a dangerous free-kick and Ndayishimiye climbed above Ruiz to give Donnarumma no chance.

Substitute Goncalo Ramos almost set up a grandstand finish, but Bulka – against his former club – was in inspired mood and Nice were able to celebrate the biggest upset of the Ligue 1 season.
