Mitsotakis: Skopje and Tirana’s EU path passes through Greece as well

Athens, 6 June 2024 (MIA) - Our vote at the elections will become a message to our northern neighbors. Their path to Europe passes through our country as well, by respecting international legitimacy, rule of law, the agreements. Something that applies both to Skopje and Tirana, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said at a rally Wednesday in Thessaloniki ahead of Sunday’s European elections, MIA’s Athens correspondent reports.

The election campaign in Greece is culminating ahead of Sunday’s European elections. Mitsotakis spoke at a New Democracy rally in Thessaloniki on Wednesday and will hold the final rally in the center of Athens on Friday.

The Greek Prime Minister also addressed the electorate through TV interviews, including Wednesday’s interview for Antena TV.

In the interview Mitsotakis once again demanded from the leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Hristijan Mickoski, that he should categorically state, when he officially becomes prime minister, that he would honor the Prespa Agreement whose “main achievement was one name for all, erga omnes”.

“Otherwise, the only thing he can achieve is to have a very unpleasant first experience when we all meet in Washington at NATO’s 75th anniversary, at the beginning of July,” Mitsotakis added reiterating that he will raise the specific issue at the NATO Summit.

Asked if there was any possibility of Greece blocking the path of Skopje and Tirana to the EU, Mitsotakis voiced optimism that this would not be necessary, because, he said, he is certain that “logic will prevail in the end”.
