Skopje, 8 February 2024 (MIA) - Parliamentary dialogue is necessary between majority and opposition MPs, it is key to efficient work of the Assembly, concurred Parliament Speaker Jovan Mitreski and the U.S. Ambassador to North Macedonia Angela Aggeler at a meeting on Thursday.
According to Aggeler, it is in the interest of the citizens that the institutions are efficient, regardless of the fact that a caretaker Government is in place in this pre-election period. An extremely important time for the country is ahead, which is why it is very important that processes take place in accordance with the foreseen dynamics and procedure, the Ambassador noted.
Speaker Mitreski pointed out that the Parliament will work intensively in the coming period, and it is its obligation to process the proposals it receives, whether they come from the Government or a group of MPs. He noted that regular parliamentary elections will be held for the first time in 16 years, which means that the Parliament will work until the beginning of the election campaign for the presidential elections, i.e. until the beginning of April. According to him, that leaves enough space to complete the procedure for several important legal solutions.
Aggeler and Mitreski addressed the Parliament's priorities in the coming period, i.e. until the start of the election campaign, the Parliament said in a press release.
Ambassador Aggeler congratulated Speaker Mitreski on his election, wishing him success in the new post. She pointed out that the Republic of North Macedonia will always have a friend and great supporter in the United States.
Speaker Mitreski thanked for the U.S. continuous support to the country, both in terms of reform processes and in terms of the European integration path towards full-fledged EU membership. He said that Macedonian citizens particularly value the strategic partnership with the United States, which is a pillar for the strong bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
