Kiev, 11 August 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Anti-aircraft defences shot down Russian hypersonic Kinzhal missiles fired at Kiev, the military administration in the Ukrainian capital said.

Nearly half a dozen explosions resulting from air defences intercepting the missiles were heard on Friday morning.

Missile fragments fell on the grounds of a children's hospital and the roof of a private house in a northern district of Kiev, the authorities said.

There were no reports of casualties.

Air defence systems were also activated in the western regions of Vinnytsia and Khmelnytskyi.

An air raid warning was also issued on Friday across the country because of Russian MiG-31K combat jets soaring overhead.

Ukraine has been repelling the invasion of Russian forces for over 17 months with Western military assistance. Around Kiev, the airspace is defended with modern anti-aircraft systems.
