Skopje, 10 July 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Transport and Communications Aleksandar Nikoloski said Wednesday works on the Kichevo-Ohrid motorway would resume and announced the start of construction of the Kichevo-Bukojchani motorway section.
"There are a number of problems detected in the construction of the Kichevo-Ohrid motorway, related to exprorpation issues, design of slopes, dislocation of facilities etc. We stand by our promise to complete the motorway by the end of 2026," Minister Nikoloski told reporters.
Faculty of Civil Engineering Dean Goran Markovski said the Kichevo-Ohrid motorway construction has shown the design of serious infrastructure projects should be carried out meticulously.
"This project includes elements that are specific for many aspects but the general conclusion is that design is a very important phase in the overall process of such capital investments. The project has a long history and its design dates back to 1999. If the motorway is designed today, certain problems will have different solutions," said Markovski.
Nikolovski said he would promote the engagement of domestic companies in large infrastructure projects.
"This will be my number one priority, so that funds invested by the country stay in Macedonia, but also keeping and building knowledge, since realization of every project increases know-how and experience," said Nikolovski.
Regarding the railway sector, he added that Corridor X should be a top priority.
