Minister Bozhinovska calls for audits of all state institutions in energy sector

Skopje, 10 July 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Energy, Mining and Minerals Sanja Bozhinovska met Wednesday with Chief State Auditor Maksim Aceski, discussing the submission of audit reports in the sector to the Energy Ministry and agreeing on a process of regular audit of all institutions.

"Audit reports that have noted and informed about existing corruption in institutions such as the Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM), Electricity Transmission System Operator of the Republic of North Macedonia (MEPSO), and Mining and Energy Combine REK Bitola for years are not taken seriously. This will no longer be a practice, and anyone who has committed or attempts to commit a crime in the energy sector will be held accountable. Those who break the law will not be tolerated," Bozhinovska said.

Aceski highlighted previous reports on the work of these institutions and noted irregularities.

After this meeting, we will contact responsible institutions to initiate procedures to verify findings in the audit reports. Yesterday, the Ministry sent letters to the Bureau of Metrology, State Inspectorate for Technical Inspection, Agency for Mandatory Oil Reserves, Geological State Office, MEPSO, ESM, National Electricity Market Operator (MEMO), NOMAGAS Skopje, Strezhevo Public Enterprise, and Energy Agency, asking to submit reports on the activities carried out over the past four years and their current financial status, the Ministry for Energy, Mining and Minerals said in a press release. ssh/ik/
