Minchev: Public administration reform is one of top priorities in accession partnership with EU

Skopje, 17 December 2024 (MIA) - Public administration reform is one of the top priorities in the accession partnership with the European Union, part of the first Cluster – Fundamentals, in accordance with the new methodology for accession negotiations. However, these reforms are not only an obligation to the EU, but also an obligation to our citizens. Our goal is to build a modern, transparent and efficient public administration that offers fast and quality services for all, Minister of Public Administration Goran Minchev told a meeting of the special group for public administration reform on European integration and administrative reforms.

Minister Minchev expressed gratitude to the European Union, SIGMA, ReSPA, and other partners for their ongoing support and commitment, highlighting the key role of public administration as a pillar of modern society and an important factor in the country's preparation for membership in the European Union, the Ministry of Public Administration said in a press release.

Minchev also briefed participants in the meeting on the Ministry's key activities towards implementing the 2023-2030 Public Administration Reform Strategy, the Growth Plan and the reform roadmap.

A new legal framework is being drafted which includes laws on public sector employees, administrative officials, and professional development, with the aim of establishing institutional mechanisms for continuous education and professionalization of officials.

"We see the reports of the European Commission and the SIGMA assessment missions as a compass to guide reforms. They show us not only where we need to improve, but also how important cooperation with the EU and all other partners is," the Minister added, calling for joint efforts in meeting priorities.

Minchev stressed the need to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation and partnerships with the civil society sector, as well as international organizations.

"Our commitment to reforms is unequivocal, but success is possible only through joint efforts. I am confident that with strategic cooperation, we will achieve significant results that will substantiate our readiness for full-fledged membership in the European family," the Minister pointed out.
