Skopje, 12 January 2023 (MIA) – Bulgarian caretaker Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov said Wednesday that opening a consulate in North Macedonia is “a complicated and political matter.”

Milkov made the statement in response to an MP’s question at a session of the Bulgarian Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

“That is a complicated and political matter. It should be discussed with their officials. We have no intention to make such a decision. We will leave this issue for the regular government to deal with,” stressed Milkov.

Regarding the Bulgarian Consul General in Bitola, Foreign Minister Milkov said that his term expires on January 15.

“We will appoint an interim consul, because at this stage, the Macedonian side has not issued an exequatur for our new consul general. This process has been going on for months,” said Milkov.
