Skopje, 18 March 2026 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, who is attending the 50th anniversary of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Brussels, announced via video address that in addition to the event marking the anniversary, a summit of leaders who are part of the EPP family will also be held.
According to Mickoski, the summit will focus on the economic prospects of the European continent, global challenges, the war in Ukraine, as well as the war in the Gulf. However, he points out, of particular interest to the Macedonian delegation is the discussion on EU enlargement, as well as the achievements and reforms made in recent months by the VMRO-DPMNE-led government.
"We are here in Brussels for two days to mark the 50th anniversary of the European People's Party, the largest political force in democratic Europe, of which VMRO-DPMNE, the largest political party in Macedonia, is an inseparable part. These two days, in addition to the official event to celebrate the anniversary, we will also have a summit of leaders, of presidents of political parties, who are part of the European People's Party family. We will discuss the economic perspective of the European continent, of course we will discuss global challenges, the war in Ukraine, the war in the Gulf, in Iran, but we will also talk about increasing competitiveness. Our goal and our particular interest is the discussion about the enlargement of the EU itself, but also all those achievements and reforms that we have made in recent months as VMRO-DPMNE, i.e. as a Government," the Prime Minister and VMRO-DPMNE leader said in his video address.
The VMRO-DPMNE delegation led by Mickoski in Brussels includes the party’s secretary general Dragan Kovachki and executive committee member Stefan Andonovski.
On the sidelines of the Congress of the European People’s Party, Mickoski met with his Croatian counterpart Andrej Plenković. In a Facebook post earlier on Wednesday, Mickoski said talks focused on regional cooperation and the European perspective.
