Mickoski: Text of draft-constitutional amendments is unacceptable and irrational

Skopje, 19 July 2023 (MIA) – Apart from being unacceptable, the constitutional amendments, in their current form, under Bulgarian dictate, and in the way they are being submitted to Parliament, are further complicated by the Government by defining a text which is not only unacceptable, but is also completely irrational, said VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski, after the Government forwarded the draft-constitutional amendments to Parliament on Tuesday.

The draft, according to Mickoski, as it is, further endangers the country’s positions in terms of its progress to the EU.

“And I would really like to hear the Government’s justification over which part of the conclusions of the EU Council, which part of the negotiating framework and the protocol contains this text of the constitutional amendments,” said the VMRO-DPMNE leader.

Mickoski did not want to comment on today’s statement by the Prime Minister, and added that Kovachevski’s Government has signed agreements without societal coordination and consensus.

“They thought that by begging the international community they would remain in power a couple of days longer. But now the problem emerges, now they can’t deliver, because they lack credibility as a Government, the people don’t trust them, while the main opposition party was completely excluded from this process. And what did they do now? They signed something which had neither societal nor political consensus, and now they are unable to deliver it and they create additional problems for Macedonia’s Euro-integration process. VMRO-DPMNE will not support the process as it is foreseen by Kovachevski and the ones who are really in charge of the Government, DUI. How we will act in the Committee and in Parliament, we will decide at a coordination meeting with our parliamentary group,” said Mickoski.
