Mickoski says he’s pleasantly surprised by Pendarovski’s position on referendum
Kavadarci, 28 July 2022 (MIA) – Commenting on President Stevo Pendarovski’s statement about phrasing of a referendum question, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said he had to admit that for the first time after a long time he and Pendarovski might be on the same wavelength, as it was also the direction in which he was thinking of coming up with a phrasing of the question before the Executive Committee, as well as before the citizens.
However, he added, “I expect Pendarovski to then call on the other political parties in Macedonia, if that’s the essence of the question, and they vote in a referendum.”
During Thursday’s visit to Kavadarci, Mickoski stressed he was pleasantly surprised by Pendarovski’s position because it is a positive one about a referendum. And a referendum, he noted, is the highest form of democracy in a country.
“The citizens should decide whether they want to have a European future assimilated like this, Bulgarianized, under dictation, or have a European future proud and dignified when the conditions are created in the near future. The European future and will of the citizens, as well as of the political entities, has never been in question and there has been no dilemma regarding this, but only regarding the path. Now, unfortunately, this criminal government in order to practically get conditional amnesty from the international community for the crime it does, has no problem selling out and satisfying the demands of certain bureaucrats. However, I believe we’re moving in the right direction, and what Pendarovski also said in this direction, let’s give citizens the opportunity to decide what their European future will be, whether it will be such as offered by the SDSM and DUI government, or it will be proud and dignified,” said the VMRO-DPMNE leader.
