Mickoski: Leaders' meeting over elections needed, could also be scheduled by Xhaferi

Skopje, 7 October 2023 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said it was time for a leaders' meeting, which could also be initiated by Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi, otherwise he noted a constitutional crisis is possible.

"In a few months, two extremely important election processes are ahead of us. One is the presidential election, first and second round, and the other is the parliamentary election. I believe it is really irresponsible not to have any activity at all in just a few months away from those election cycles, and this could be happening for the first time on the Macedonian political scene. That's why I put forth the idea of a leaders' meeting. I heard Artan Grubi and Dimitar Kovachevski's opinions on this. But, when I'm talking about a leaders' meeting, I'm thinking of a leaders' meeting in a format in which we would discuss over election dates, because otherwise could face a constitutional crisis, and processes could then be constitutionally challenged, or to be more precise, they could be unconstitutional," Mickoski told reporters during a visit to Veles on Saturday as part of the party's campaign.

He added that such a leaders' meeting could also be organized by Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi.

"That's why I believe, seeing that we're only a few months away from elections, it is good to sit down for a leaders' meeting alongside representatives from the Government and representatives from the opposition. Since they are mentioning the institutions, I will give them a proposal. Talat Xhaferi could be the organizer, it could also be in the Parliament, I will attend it there as well to discuss possible dates for the elections," Mickoski said, adding that he expects reason and responsibility from the ruling party in order to prepare for a truly fair election process.
