Skopje, 14 September 2026 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski expects the Macedonian economy’s growth trend to continue, with GDP growth of 3.5 to 4 percent by the end of the year.

Speaking on MRT’s evening news, Mickoski said that after strong growth in the second quarter, he expects growth of 3.5 to 4 percent in the other two quarters as well.

“The initial indicators for the first month of the third quarter, including industrial production, tourism and construction, are encouraging and suggest that we could have a strong third quarter. We need to see how the coming months develop, but I expect 2026 to end with real growth between 3.5 to 4 percent, allowing us to maintain continuous real growth, while nominal growth will be above 8 percent,” Mickoski said.

He pointed out that the country’s nominal GDP now stands at $22 billion, while GDP per capita amounts to $12,000.

“Something that we had set as a goal to achieve by the end of our term is now being achieved just over halfway through the term. The rating confirmation by Fitch is confirmation of the work we are doing. Despite the nihilism and the opposition’s desire to bankrupt the country, because they know the kind of debts and chaos they left behind, they go to bed every night praying that something bad will happen to the country. But unfortunately for them, and fortunately for the country and its citizens, that is not happening. We are moving forward. Is everything perfect? No, it is not. Are there problems? Yes, there are, but we are solving them, especially after the catastrophe we inherited. The fact is that people are living better than they were three years ago and we will do everything we can to ensure that people are living even better three years from now,” Mickoski said.
