Skopje, 24 May 2025 (MIA) - The celebration of Ss. Cyril and Methodius, who laid the foundations of literacy among the Slavs and created the Glagolitic alphabet, from which the Cyrillic alphabet later emerged, is proof that their noble mission continues to unite to this day. Even then, the brothers Cyril and Methodius promoted the vision that the strength of a people and a state lies in education, science, and literacy, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski wrote in his May 24 message honouring Saints Cyril and Methodius.
“And it is precisely thanks to their spirituality and dedication that today we too can develop our own culture, education, and science in our mother tongue,” he added.
Education is the foundation for a nation’s survival and progress, and through it, we build future generations to preserve Macedonia’s values, says Mickoski in his May 24 greeting. Saints Cyril and Methodius gave us the greatest gift — the script, the language, the voice of our identity. That struggle for the right to our own voice and spirituality underpins our long fight for independence and dignity. Their mission continues through students, writers, and teachers. They are not just history, they are a bridge to the future, says Mickoski in the message.
