Michel says Western Balkans a priority for EU, to re-energize integration process

Brussels, 23 June 2022 (MIA) – European Council President Charles Michel ahead of Thursday’s EU-Western Balkans Summit said this was a decisive geopolitical moment for the European Union, as decisions will be made towards stability and prosperity.
He voiced confidence that today candidate status will be granted to Ukraine and to Moldova, as well as a clear European perspective for the two countries and Georgia.
“We have an important meeting with the leaders of the Western Balkans and there’s will to re-energize the process. At the time being we have distression in Bulgaria, and we follow closely the situation trying to put proposals on the table in order to be able as soon as possible to start accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania. It s a top priority for us and we’ll do everything to achieve an outcome on this important topic,” said Michel.
He added the EU wants to make sure that all the efforts made regarding Bosnia and Herzegovina will have a positive effect for diffusing the tensions in the country and to make sure that the institutions are working in the country.
