12 October 2021 Skopje — Of the 1,843 people tested for coronavirus over the past 24 hours, 130 were diagnosed with Covid-19. Six people, aged 27 to 85, died from the illness, the Ministry of Health said Tuesday. In the past 24 hours, 423 people recovered from the virus. At the moment, 6,658 cases are active nationwide, of which 3,391 in Skopje. Since the onset of the epidemic, North Macedonia has performed a total of 1,326,737 tests, recording 195,132 Covid-19 cases and 181,619 recoveries. The death toll has reached 6,855. Skopje – Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said Tuesday that neither him nor the EU received guarantees from Bulgaria that the process of the country’s Union membership would be unblocked, adding that a solution is possible if desired by both sides. Skopje – The government and WPD, a German company, announced Tuesday the Whirlpools project, estimated at EUR 500 million, which involves a wind park of 69 new wind turbines producing 1.335,95 gigawatt hours (GWh) of pure electricity. It was presented as being the largest direct greenfield investment in the Macedonian economy ever. Skopje – Developing countries will receive new tax rights allowing them to generate more tax revenue from the largest and most profitable companies, including highly digitalized companies, in line with a landmark deal on corporate tax reform, agreed by 136 countries and jurisdictions, including North Macedonia. Skopje – Strengthening work-based learning and linking education with the business community, acquiring skills needed in the labor market to increase employability, and reforming the competencies of the Center for Vocational Education and Training were the main objectives of the three-year regional “School Meets Business” project, which was implemented in North Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo. Sofia – Bulgarian Foreign Minister Svetlan Stoev met with his visiting Croatian counterpart, Gordan Grlic-Radman, on Tuesday. In a statement for the press after the meeting, Stoev said that he reconfirmed Sofia’s “consistent support for the European integration of the countries in the region, including the Republic of North Macedonia”. Rome – The European Union will give a total of 1 billion euros (1.1 billion dollars) in aid to support Afghans in their home country and those who have fled elsewhere in the region.
