Mexhiti: Trubarevo air is clean, results from soil sample testing due today

Skopje, 22 September 2025 (MIA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Physical Planning Izet Mexhiti said Monday that the air in Trubarevo is clean, and the results from the soil sample testing conducted by the Goce Delchev University in Shtip are due today. 

Asked about the situation in the Skopje village of Trubarevo after the major fire that broke out at the waste recycling facility, he pointed out that the air quality situation has stabilized as the situation with the fire became stable.  

"We presented the results from both daytime and nighttime, when they were higher. Immediately after the situation with the fire became stable, the air quality situation also stabilized. The air is clean there, there is no problem. Now we are working on testing soil samples. We are expecting the results from the soil sample testing conducted by the Goce Delchev University in Shtip during the day, and the public will be informed," Mexhiti said after Monday's visit to the state secondary school for rehabilitation and education "St.Naum Ohridski" in Skopje.

The Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning said earlier on Monday that according to the measurements obtained between September 21 at 8:30 a.m. and September 22 at 8:30 a.m. for suspended particles up to 10 micrometers in size, the average concentration was 14.2 µg/m³. The maximum recorded value reached 44.1 µg/m³, whereas the current concentration is 11.9 µg/m³. 

The Ministry noted in the press release that the results show values for PM10 particle concentration are within the permitted limits, and no exceedance of the established thresholds has been recorded.

The fire broke out at a waste recycling facility in the Skopje village of Trubarevo on September 13.
