MEP delegation to probe media freedom, corruption in Bulgaria
Brussels, 20 September 2021 (MIA/BTA) - Representatives of the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) will come to Bulgaria on September 23-24 to probe the media freedom and the corruption in this country, LIBE said.
The delegation includes seven MEPs - Sophia in 't Veld (Renew Europe), Elena Yoncheva (Socialists and Democrats), Clare Daly (The Left), Vladimir Bilcik (EPP), Annalisa Tardino (Identity and Democracy), Patryk Jaki (European Conservatives and Reformists), Sergey Lagodinsky (The Greens).
The MEPs will meet representatives of civil society organizations, senior state officials, Bulgaria's ombudsman Diana Kovacheva and the Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev, LIBE said.
The MEPs are expected to ask questions regarding the rule of the law. On Friday they will hold a press conference at the European Parliament Representation in Sofia.
