Tehran, 10 March 2026 (dpa/MIA) - Hundreds of thousands of Iranians joined organized rallies on Monday to mark the appointment of Mojtaba Khamenei as the country's new supreme leader following the death of his father, ayatollah Ali Khamenei, state media reported.
Participants pledged allegiance to the new supreme leader in Tehran despite the threat of US and Israeli attacks.
State television showed motorcades and people waving Iranian flags. The demonstrators pledged to pursue the current conflict with the United States and Israel to "final victory," state media reported.
The 56-year-old new supreme leader was appointed to succeed his father as religious and political leader late on Sunday, nine days after ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in an Israeli airstrike.
