Skopje, 2 November 2022 (MIA) - A total of 75 percent of the German companies in the country would invest here again, according to the latest analyzes of the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in North Macedonia. According to the Director of the Delegation, Patrick Martens, the chances for North Macedonia lie in the metal, wood and food industry, in agriculture, textile and shoe industry, as well as in the IT sector. “The majority of German companies are located in free zones and according to surveys, 75 percent of them would invest here again. So, they are satisfied,” said Martens during the Macedonian-German Forum organized Wednesday in Skopje by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in North Macedonia and the Institute for Democracy “Societas Civilis”-Skopje. Martens also addressed the challenges, noting that corruption and slow administrative procedures are still key, but legal reforms are also important, he added. “Over the past 10 years, North Macedonia has also lost many people. Everyone here who invests can be successful only if there are people,” Martens noted. However, at the moment, he concluded, the energy crisis is the biggest risk to the economy. “Companies, unlike citizens, will have to get the prices of energy on the free market, this applies to Europe and Germany as well. It's a huge problem. We still don't know how the companies will be prepared for this winter,” Martens underlined. In his address at the forum, he emphasized the need to accelerate the decarbonization process.
