Mario Andretti set to be non-executive director at Cadillac F1 team
- Former Formula One world champion Mario Andretti has confirmed he will have a role with the new Cadillac team which is set to join the grid in 2026.

Berlin, 26 November 2024 (dpa/MIA) - Former Formula One world champion Mario Andretti has confirmed he will have a role with the new Cadillac team which is set to join the grid in 2026.
Monday's announcement of an 11th team when new rules are introduced in two years is another indication of F1's huge push into the United States, which already hosts three grands prix.
A US team backed by a famous brand, in contrast to backmarkers Haas, was a logical next step but a long planned Andretti-named team was overlooked in favour of General Motors and Cadillac.
But having the last US F1 champion (1978) on board in some capacity has proved too tempting.
Mario Andretti wrote on X late on Monday: "I feel very lucky that I've been able to stick around for this long and do what I love for so long. And the idea that the Cadillac F1 Team wants me around ...
"I'll help where I can, a non-executive role with the team, not involved in day-to-day operations (because I don't want a job), but offering advice, inspiration, friendship anywhere I can. I am beyond fortunate."
His son Michael, also a former F1 driver, was the main backer for the Andretti brand to be involved but has now vowed to get behind the new US team.
"The Cadillac F1 Team is made up of a strong group of people that have worked tirelessly to build an American works team," he also write on X.
"I’m very proud of the hard work they have put in and congratulate all involved on this momentous next step. I will be cheering for you!"
