Marichikj-Lajčák: North Macedonia's policies based on European values

Skopje, 1 March 2023 (MIA) - For our EU partners, North Macedonia is a positive example of a country settling open issues with neighbors and making committed progress towards the Union, agreed Deputy PM for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj and EU Special Representatives for the Western Balkans, Miroslav Lajčák in Brussels on Wednesday.

"We lead, promote and support policies based on European values, policies that do not look back into the past but head to a clear EU perspective and offer stability, prosperity and well-being for our citizens," said Deputy PM Marichikj.

Lajčák briefed Marichikj on the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, with the latter welcoming the progress and the fresh opportunity to close open issues, the Secretariat for European Affairs said in a press release.

Interlocutors confirmed that the choice of Ohrid to be the place for the talks on normalization of Belgrade-Pristina relations and Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski to host the meeting is a proof that North Macedonia is a synonym for constructive dialogue, maturity and responsibility in the region.

The meeting also tackled domestic political developments, open issues in the region, and the importance of producing a clear plan to reaffirm the Western Balkans' unification with the EU.

Marichikj, who is North Macedonia's Chief Negotiator with the EU, also briefed Lajčák on the course of the screening process, reads the press release.
