Marichikj: Screening period to provide enough time to reach two-thirds majority
Skopje, 19 July 2022 (MIA) — Today we have officially started the negotiations and all the lies of the opposition have been dispelled, because everything was translated into Macedonian, Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj told Kanal 5 following the first meeting of the EU acquis screening process. Asked if it would be possible to change the Constitution with a two-thirds majority despite the opposition declaring it would not support this, Deputy PM Marichikj said the screening period of 14 to 16 months provided enough space for dialogue in Parliament and for defining the role of Parliament in the negotiations. “Everyone will be able to get involved in the screening process and see how it goes. We will present all key documents and roadmaps for the rule of law, for public administration reforms, democratic institutions, the action plan for minorities to assure the public and MPs there is nothing controversial there,” Marichikj said, adding that this would help reach a two-thirds majority for the Constitutional changes necessary for continuing on the EU path. mr/
