Marichikj: Many challenges ahead, important to stay on European path
Skopje, 29 June 2022 (MIA) – Deputy PM for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj met Wednesday with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), agreeing that despite all challenges Europe is facing, the EU must remain active in the region and in North Macedonia. “Progress is possible, we believe there is a solution but both sides must demonstrate European leadership and political will. The European Parliament can have an impact on Union policies and we expect the see the declared support in action,” Deputy PM Marichikj told the meeting. MEPs reaffirmed the commitment for Union enlargement with the region, noting they expect a continuation of the debate within the EU on the issue and importance of enlargement, so that the future of North Macedonia and the region is confirmed, the Secretariat for European Affairs said in a press release. “I believe that MEPs truly appreciate North Macedonia’s role in the region and as a bilateral partner of the European Union. We should have started the accession negotiations a long time ago and enough time has been lost. Now is the historic moment for historic decisions,” added Marichikj. He reaffirmed the Macedonian positions in the talks with Bulgaria, saying the country remained committed to European integration, something that citizens deserve from the moment when they accepted the challenge of transformation and Europeanization of the society, reads the press release.
