Marichikj: It is simple - integration or isolation

Marichikj: It is simple - integration or isolation

Skopje, 1 June 2023 (MIA) - I believe there is a way if the opposition is coming with the intention to find a solution. If the constitutional amendments do not materialize, we will enter into isolation in the next decade, says Deputy PM for European Affairs Bojan Marichikj.

Deputy PM Marichikj told Kanal 5 that Prime Minister and SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski and VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski and their teams can discuss 'what next' after the constitutional changes are passed.

"I am certain we can discuss the next steps once the constitutional revision is passed, this is more important than the 'what next' after they are not adopted. If this happens, and I believe it won't, it is easy to predict what will happen - we enter into a dark street for the next 10 years," says Marichikj.

The Deputy PM expects one EU member to support the Macedonian language and identity by the month-end.

"I expect this big member-state to make a political move by publicly supporting our language and identity, which would serve as a prominent guarantee that the Macedonian language and identity cannot be endangered because of the EU negotiations," adds Marichikj.

According to him, Bulgaria will not block North Macedonia if the constitutional amendments are adopted, expressing assurance that the coming process "will reach a point where at least 80 MPs vote for the constitutional revision".
