Paris, 7 June 2023 (dpa/MIA) - French President Emmanuel Macron has slammed the destruction of the Kakhovka dam in occupied Ukraine and has promised that his country will rapidly send aid.
"We will send aid in the very next hours to meet immediate needs," Macron said after a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"I was able to express to President Zelensky my solidarity with his people following the attack on the Kakhovka dam. France condemns this heinous act that puts the population in danger," Macron said.
The Élysée Palace said the Foreign Ministry's Crisis and Support Centre would very quickly send a first convoy with about 10 tons of health, hygiene and water treatment products along with portable tanks as requested by the Ukrainians.
His comments come after the destruction of the dam by the city of Nova Kakhovka in the Russian-occupied part of the southern Ukrainian region of Kherson.
