Brussels, 30 June 2022 (MIA) – French President Emmanuel Macron told Thursday a press conference at the NATO Summit in Madrid he is convinced that a good agreement has been reached between Skopje and Sofia, MIA reports from Brussels. “On the issue of North Macedonia’s accession, we continued our consultations with the Macedonian and Bulgarian authorities because our task for the European perspective of the Western Balkans is to be able to open the first chapters with Macedonia and Albania. Based on these consultations, I am convinced we have reached a compromise solution that considers the sensibilities of both sides. In the interest of Bulgaria and North Macedonia, acceptable for all,” said President Macron. He expressed hope that the “review by both sides in the coming days will confirm this”. “The PM and President of Bulgaria have confirmed they accept the proposal. Acceptance by Skopje will require consultations. This solution brings safety, predictability and security in overcoming disputes inherited from the past,” noted Macron.
