Macedonian short film to premiere at Cannes on July 16
Skopje, 7 July 2021 (MIA) – The Macedonian short film “The North Pole”, directed by Marija Apchevska, has been shortlisted for the Cannes Short Films Competition at the 74th Cannes Film Festival, running from July 6 through July 17. “The North Pole”, supported by the North Macedonia Film Agency, will have its world premiere on July 16 at 11 am at the Théâtre Claude Debussy in Cannes. Ahead of the premiere, the Film Agency will organize a reception on July 15 for guests and professionals from the film industry, representatives of national film centres and agencies attending the Cannes Film Festival. After a year-long hiatus, Macedonian cinema will be presented at in-person edition of the Cannes Film Market, namely at the pavilion opened for showcasing latest films from Southeastern Europe (SEE) “It is major achievement for Macedonian cinema having short film in official competition in Cannes and a major breakthrough to put it on the international film map,” the Film Agency said in a statement Wednesday. Two Macedonian films will be screened at the Film Market, including Kristijan Risteski’s “Snow White Dies at the End”, and Goce Cvetanovski’s “The Day of the Woman”. In addition to showcasing the latest features, the Film Agency at the Cannes Film Market on July 6-15 will present the latest catalogue with all the new film projects from 2020 and 2021, and films in development.
