Macedonian Police Day marked in Skopje

Skopje, 7 May 2024 (MIA) – A central ceremony in Skopje’s Aerodrom municipality marking Macedonian Police Day (May 7) took place Tuesday featuring addresses by top Interior Ministry officials and a showcase of equipment used by the police units.

Caretaker Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski and Additional Deputy Interior Minister Mitko Bojmacaliev both attended the event and presented their differing views of the working conditions and the challenges the police are facing all the while thanking law enforcement officials for their dedication.

Attendees also included diplomats serving in the country.

Toshkovski said that when he was appointed minister he witnessed undignified working conditions in the police force, which had been showing immense professionalism.

“Having been appointed recently, I’ve been in the ministry long enough to see there are people who work for the good of the homeland. On the eve of the coming elections, I can say one big thank you to the police officers who have been in any capacity engaged in the election process. Also, in the past 100 days, I’ve had the chance to firsthand witness not only the scope of the responsibility and importance of the police but also in the overall multilayered significance of this institution,” stated Toshkovski.

In his address, Bojmacaliev said the Interior Ministry has been turned from a closed institution lacking transparency into being the most transparent.

“Commitment, knowledge, hard work, staff and technical upgrade has been invested recently. It has been done to boost the efficiency and effectiveness of the complex security system. The modern democratic society is subjected to dynamic continual changes and adjustments in order to follow modern trend. Thus, the police is facing countless challenges on daily basis, which require new and creative solutions,” he said.
