Macedonian pavilion opens at 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale

Skopje, 18 May 2023 (MIA) — The Macedonian pavilion at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition opens Thursday to showcase the exhibition "Stories of the Summer School of Architecture in the St. Joakim Osogovski Monastery 1992–2017," which is representing the country at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale.

Dedicated to the state university's Faculty of Architecture's summer school over the years, the exhibit "wants to establish a dynamic reconstruction of the work of many, through memories, recollections and stories," according to organizers.

The art show also reveals "the opposites between the reality of everyday and the sublime of architecture: the houses, the streets, the neighborhoods, the prototypes of the harsh transition, the non-places, the discarded materials, the outburst of the mountains' pure architecture, the spectacles of nature, the invisible labyrinths, the intersection, the collage/assemblage/montage, the feeling of being home," organizers say.

The project was commissioned by National Gallery head Dita Starova Qerimi. It was curated by Aleksandar Petanovski, Dimitar Krsteski, Darko Draganovski, Marija Petrova and Goran Petrov.

Works on display are by Minas Bakalchev, Mitko Hadzhi-Pulja, Aleksandar Radevski, Sasha Tasikj and Dimitar Papasterevski.

It was organized by "The City Beautiful" urban research association. mr/
