Macedonian and Russian scientific community strengthen cooperation
Skopje, 18 October 2021 (MIA) – The international educational space is developing intensely. The progressive community strives to create a global strategy to educate humankind, regardless of where they live and the level of their education. It’s impossible today to secure competitiveness to the higher education institutions and their graduate students to the world market without actively interacting with foreign partners. Our countries are united by the understanding that modern education should become international, and university education should become multicultural, according to the participants in Monday’s event at the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MANU), which officially kicked off the Russian Science Days.
According to the high representatives of the Macedonian and Russian communities of scholars, the status of the countries of the world today depends on scientific progress and new technologies. Science should demonstrate convincing results from its research which can be the basis of political decisions that rely on the constant contact of scientists and their professional interaction with decision-makers who implement those decisions internationally.
Macedonian and Russian scientists have always had fruitful collaboration, and there is an interest to intensify it and realize mutual projects and research, and renewable sources of energy, safe food and environment protection are only some of the areas where there is significant potential.
“The world owes much to Russian science. The names of great Russian scientists, researchers, writers etc. will forever be written in history, and many of them have won Nobel prizes. Today, Russia recognizes the significance of science and strategizes how to support it,” said MANU president, Ljupcho Kocarev on Monday, and he announced that there will be a new agreement between the Russian Academy of Sciences and MANU.
According to Sergey Bazdnikin, Russian Ambassador in North Macedonia, Russia prioritizes sciences, focusing on advanced scientific-research centers and talented young people.
“With the help of MANU and Russian higher education institutions, we’ve been able to open a series of online lectures held by lectures from both countries for modern scientific achievements. The selection of disciplines is not random: AI, biochemistry and molecular biology, agricultural sciences and veterinary sciences. Our collaboration in these areas has been fruitful. I am convinced that the Days of Russian Science will contribute to the improvement of our traditional partner connections, and the Embassy will continue to support the collaboration,” Bazdnikin said.
Viktor Sadovnichiy, president of the Russian Rectors’ Union and rector of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Sergei Pozyabin, rector of the Moscow State Academy for Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnology, Evgeny Rudoy, rector of the Novosibirsk State Agrarian University and professor Velimir Stojkovski, honorary consul of the Russian Federation in Skopje, also spoke at the formal opening.
Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, declared 2021 the Year of Science and Technology. 86 events will be organized to get the wider public acquainted with Russian science in an accessible and informative way.
