Brussels, 8 July 2021 (dpa/MIA) – Luxembourg‘s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel left hospital on Thursday after four days of treatment for Covid-19. The 48-year-old is to resume work remotely on Friday until his mandatory quarantine period ends, according to a government press release. The politician thanked all the hospital staff involved in his care for “great professionalism, determination and enthusiasm,” the statement said, as well as all the tiny country’s health professionals on the front line of the fight against the virus. Bettel was hospitalized on Sunday and one day later was described as being in a “serious but stable” condition. Luxembourg‘s Finance Minister Pierre Gramegna temporarily took charge of government affairs. Bettel tested positive for the coronavirus after a late June EU summit in Brussels, but no other EU leaders have since been reported as infected. According to his own statements, Bettel – who has served as prime minister since December 2013 – had received one coronavirus vaccine dose. Media reported that he had received an AstraZeneca shot.
