Luxembourg calls for all EU states to take in Afghan refugees

Luxembourg calls for all EU states to take in Afghan refugees
The foreign minister of Luxembourg has called for all EU countries to take in Afghan refugees in the wake of the Taliban's seizure of power. "We need a European solution," Jean Asselborn, foreign minister of the European Union's second smallest member state, told journalists. "It would be regrettable if EU countries refused to take in refugees, and if the EU with its 450 million citizens couldn't manage to take women and children in particular," Asselborn said in Luxembourg. The minister said there was a "wait-and-see tendency" when it came to offers to take people. "And that makes me a bit sad," he added. The European Union expects a sharp increase in the number of people wanting to leave Afghanistan.
