Lloga: We leave room for VMRO-DPMNE, working group for constitutional amendments to be formed by end of week

Skopje, 27 March 2023 (MIA) – The preamble in the part for implementing the smaller communities in the country is priority, but other necessary constitutional amendments are in the works, such as the amendment to make the Minister of Justice member of the Judicial Council, regulating the vacuum with the dismissal of Parliament and the swap between ministers, as well as the parts that were problematic during the pandemic and other issues such as the 20% language part, according to the Minister of Justice Krenar Lloga.

Lloga, during his first reporter briefing since becoming Minister, said that the constitution has to be opened and that the working group for constitutional changes is “days away” from being formed.

“We will need a consensus for all these issues, but we are prioritizing the preamble to implement the smaller communities in the country. If all participants are up for it, we want these proposals to be part of it,” Lloga said, pointing out that these issues are better as a package deal.

He said that he’s communicating with PM Dimitar Kovachevski, President Stevo Pendarovski, MP group president Nikola Micevski and party leader Hristijan Mickoski.

“I expect for the opposition to be part of the working group, not just for the constitutional changes, but the Electoral Code and all other working groups related to reforms, not just about the judiciary, but other areas too,” Lloga, expressing conviction that VMRO-DPMNE will overcome itself and be part of this, so that we’re not isolated for 10 years again.

Regarding to whether or not specific names are discussed for the working group, Lloga said that there are suggestions and some names are already on the table, and there is space for VMRO-DPMNE too.

“I sent a letter to VMRO-DPMNE to suggest their own working group member, and another one to Mickoski in which I said I give up my spot as committee president. We will wait until the end of this week,” Lloga said during Monday’s media brief at the Ministry of Justice. dk/sk/
