Berlin, 4 June 2023 (dpa/MIA) - Charles Leclerc of Ferrari will start the Formula One Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday from the pit lane after a suspension setup change in his car under parc ferme, ruling body FIA said.
Leclerc had a catastrophic qualifying session on Saturday and was set to start the race in 19th.
The Monegasque complained the car was "undriveable," specially when taking right turns. According to media reports, however, Ferarri could not identify the problem and decided to change the whole suspension setup.
Teams cannot make major set-up changes in parc ferme conditions, therefore, Leclerc was penalized.
Logan Sargeant of Williams will also start from the pit lane after changing the suspension setup and brake cooling. He was previously to start at the back of the grid.
Champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull is on pole, followed by Carlos Sainz in second in the other Ferrari and the McLaren of Lando Norris in third.
