Lavrov accuses EU, NATO of jointly preparing to wage war on Russia
Moscow, 24 June 2022 (dpa/MIA) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused the European Union and NATO of joining forces to wage war on Russia. "We have few illusions that the current anti-Russian charge of the EU will somehow dissolve or change in the foreseeable future and - to be honest - in the long term," he said during a visit to Azerbaijan. He also said that Nazi Germany under Adolf Hitler rallied other European countries to attack the Soviet Union at the beginning of World War II, according to Ria Novosti agency. Lavrov added: "Now the EU, together with NATO, is also putting together such a modern coalition for a fight and ultimately for a war on the Russian Federation. We will watch all this very closely." On the EU summit's decision to grant Ukraine EU candidate status, Lavrov said this did not pose a threat to Russia as unlike NATO, the EU is not a military alliance.
