Lajčák, Escobar receive assurances of no violence in Kosovo on Sept. 1
Prishtina, 24 August 2022 (MIA) – The EU Special Representative for the Belgrade–Prishtina Dialogue Miroslav Lajčák and the US Deputy Assistant Secretary and Special Representative to the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar said they had received assurances from Prishtina and Belgrade there would be no violence on Sept. 1, when the Kosovo government’s reciprocal measures regarding car license plates and travel documents with Serbia come into force, MIA’s Prishtina correspondent reports. Talking to the press after their meetings with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Prishtina on Wednesday, Lajčák and Escobar said they were committed to preventing any escalation in Kosovo on Sept. 1. “Both sides assured us that they do not want escalation or violence on Sept. 1. So we are here to make sure all those good wishes, all that optimism will turn into a concrete proposal,” Escobar told reporters. Lajčák said he had a good meeting with the Kosovo leaders, adding that talks continue in order to avoid any tension on Sept. 1. Toward this aim, he said, he and his US colleague are meeting with Belgrade officials immediately after wrapping up their Prishtina visit. mr/
