Kumanovo hospital sees increasing numbers of people with tick-borne disease symptoms
Kumanovo, 10 June 2022 (MIA) — The Kumanovo General Hospital’s Infectious Diseases Unit has reported increasing numbers of patients seeking medical help for various symptoms following tick bites, according to MIA’s Kumanovo correspondent. “Patients come in with fever, joint pain, muscle pain, headaches, fatigue, and rashes,” the Kumanovo General Hospital’s Infectious Diseases Unit director Sunchica Josifova said. “The symptoms usually appear one to three weeks after the tick bite. Other insect bites usually result in allergic reactions,” she added. To avoid severe complications, ticks should be removed by medical staff within 24 hours of the bite, Josifova said, pointing out that ticks cause Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis, and other diseases. She recommends that people wear light long-sleeved shirts and long pants and examine themselves after walks in nature. mr/
